Principles of Solid State Physics presents a unified treatment of the basic models used to describe the solid state phenomena. This book is divided into three parts. Part I considers mechanical or geometrical properties that are describable by a lattice of mass points. Intended for a two semester advanced undergraduate or graduate course in Solid State Physics, this treatment offers modern coverage of the theory and related experiments, including the group theoretical approach to band structures, Moessbauer recoil free fraction, semi-classical electron theory, magnetoconductivity, electron self-energy and Landau theory of Fermi liquid, and both quantum 3/5(1).

From the Back Cover. This new edition of the popular introduction to solid-state physics provides a comprehensive overview on basic theoretical and experimental concepts of material science.

Additional sections emphasize current topics in solid-state physics. Notably, sections on important devices, aspects of non-periodic structures of matter, Cited by: Kyung-Soo Yi is a theoretical solid state physicist; he is a professor emeritus since at Pusan National University, Busan, Republic of Korea.

Professor Yi's main topics of theoretical solid state physics have been the physics of reduced dimensional solid state systems. Principles of Solid State Physics presents a unified treatment of the basic models used to describe the solid state phenomena.

This book is divided into three parts. Part I considers mechanical or geometrical properties that are describable by a lattice of mass Edition: 1. It was Ziman's book that I preferred when studying solid state physics as a graduate student in the mid 's. I found discussion of band theory using dispersion surfaces especially compelling--thereby establishing the link between dynamical diffraction theory and the understanding of the band gap between the conduction and valence by: It is a source of great pleasure to help launch the new Springer Series in Solid-State Sciences.

Some years aga I wrote my book, Principles of Magnetic Resonance. I have been eager to publish a new book concerned with spin temperature, double resonance, and spin-flip line narrowing, topics basic toBrand: Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg. Advanced Solid State Physics Notes This note covers the following Topics includes: Schrodinger Equation, Quantization, Quantization of the Electromagnetic Field, Photonic Crystals, Phonons, Electrons, Crystal Physics, Magnetism and Response to Electric and Magnetic Fields, Transport Regimes, Quasiparticles, Dielectrics and Ferroelectrics, Superconductivity.

In my experience, Omar's "Elementary Solid State Physics" is the best for undergraduates because the QM requirements are light.

It is a better choice than Kittel's book. Ashcroft & Mermins book "Solid state physics" is IMO the best graduate level book. The book is a basic reference work for students, researchers, and lecturers in any area of solid-state physics.

I don’t like it as much, though, because in my opinion Kittel’s style is a bit terse in that he doesn’t provide as much detail into deriving the equations as I’d. The book gives a clear exposition of the elements of the physics of perfect crystalline solids.

In discussing the principles, the author aims to give students an appreciation of the conditions which are necessary for the appearance of the various by:   Principles of solid state physics by Levy, Robert A., Publication date Topics Solid state physics Publisher New York, Academic Press Collection Internet Archive Books.

Hence An Attempt Has Been Made To Present An Integrated Approach Towards The Principles Of Solid State Science. The Book Is Primarily Intended For T.Y.And Engineering Students, Although It Could Also Serve As A Refresher Course For Research Scholars And Practising Solid State Reviews: 1.Solid State Physicsexplains to readers the newest advances in the area of condensed matter physics with rigorous, but lucid mathematics.

Examples are an integral part of the text, and they are carefully designed to apply the fundamental principles illustrated in the text to currently active topics of research. The first half presents all the knowledge necessary for a one-semester survey of solid-state physics, but in greater depth than most introductory solid state physics courses.

The second half includes most of the important research over the past half-century, covering both Cited by: 9.
